Arsenal to annouce summer signing today

Premier League giants Arsenal on Monday announced the signing of Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Bundlesliga side Borussia Dortmund for a reported free of €19 million.

Papastathopoulos made 28 Bundesliga appearances last season with the Yellow Canneries having established himself as a regular in Dortmund's defence since joining from Werder Bremen in 2013.

He helped the club to win the DFB-Pokal in the 2016-17 season, also claiming a brace of DFL-Supercup crowns during his time at Dortmund.

According to Goal.com, Papastathopoulos, who is Unai Emery's third signing of the summer, earned Dortmund around £16.7m in transfer fees, and is expected to challenge Laurent Koscielny for a starting sport in the Arsenal line-up.

"I feel very good. It's a handsome moment and I'm very happy that I will be here for the next years".

"They said to me the best things about this club, that it is one big family and of course they also called me not every day but a lot of times telling me to come here. It's a attractive moment and I'm very happy that I will be here for the next years", he told Arsenal's official website.

The Gunners reportedly paid around £16 million for the 29-year-old Greece worldwide, who had a year left on his Dortmund contract and signs on a long-term deal.

Sokratis, who will wear the No 5 shirt for us, also has vast experience on the global stage, making 79 appearances for Greece.

Papastathopoulos follows Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno in moving to Arsenal ahead of the new campaign.
