Twitter reacts to news of Anthony Bourdain’s death

In the wake of the tragic suicides of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain, and a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about the sharply rising suicide rates in our country, actress Olivia Munn opened up about her own battle with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts on Instagram.

While other problems like relationships, substance use, and money often contribute to suicide, Olson says sometimes it's hard to pinpoint exactly how North Dakota's rates have risen so much. The only state to experience a decrease in suicides was Nevada, which saw its rate fall by one percent.

Suicide is caused by many factors and each one is different. The others include Alzheimer's disease and drug overdoses.

There were about 10 suicides per 100,000 people ages 10 and older in Maryland from 1999-2016, the CDC reported.

"It's a national problem of wide scope that we need comprehensive approaches for", said Anne Schuchat, a CDC deputy director. "Suicide is one of the top 10 causes of death in the U.S. right now, and it's one of three causes that is actually increasing recently, so we do consider it a public health problem - and something that is all around us", Schuchat said.

The U.S. government goes into great detail in this report, with men making up 84 percent of suicides when no mental health issue is known.

Bourdain was found dead in his hotel room in France on Friday morning. With Kate Spade's own tragic suicide just days prior, we asked experts why a celebrity might take their own life.

California's increase was half that with 15 percent.
