Details of Tom Cruise's unsafe stunt made over Abu Dhabi desert revealed

After the release of the two spectacular trailers where Tom Cruise can be seen doing unbelievably risky moves and fighting vans, helicopters and assassins; the actor is back and is performing a highly unsafe stunt known as the halo jump. "No one thought it would require over 100 jumps to get the scene", director Christopher McQuarrie said. I mean, Tom Cruise risked his life for it. Not only that, but it appears Cruise is actually pioneering this ultra-niche act when it comes to presenting it on the silver screen as an actor.

Maybe they should make a documentary for all the real-life stunts Tom Cruise insists on doing without the help of a stunt double.

Cruise had to jump out of a plane at 7,600 metres over the Abu Dhabi desert and wait until he was below 600m to pull his parachute for the stunt. That's impressive. The technique is mostly used by the military or those engaged in covert operations, where quick, unnoticed aerial infiltrations are more important than the safety one would garner from opening the chute far sooner.

Cruise has been known to do his own stunts, and this film was no exception. Hypoxia, apparently, is quite a serious problem when jumping from such heights.

However, it was a nighttime sequence, meaning that the film's crew only had three minutes of light each day as the sun set to capture the shots needed.

We must say, Tom Cruise never fails to impress us!

For everything to go smoothly during the 25,000-feet jump, Cruise wore a custom-made oxygen mask that is also shown in the movie, and made sure to stick to the choreography that prevented air collisions with the camera guy.
