Apple WWDC 2018 Starts Today

The new features will be baked right into iOS 12, which is the likely name of the operating system update Apple will announce on Monday.

This is the event where Apple previews the next major updates to its iPhone, Mac, Apple TV and Watch software at WWDC. These are expected to be new tools related to augmented reality, which will help developers create better AR apps for the iPhone. Don't get too excited for the long-rumoured Apple AR glasses just yet, because the news will apparently involve the ability to drop virtual objects that stay in place and the ability to let users play AR games against each other.

We've also heard rumors about some possible gadget launches, including a cheap new iPhone, a budget MacBook and a new HomePod-style Siri smart speaker.

This news comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who has a pretty good track record with Apple leaks and claims the new tools are due to be shown off at WWDC next week.

iOS 12 is expected toinclude performance improvements, redesigned basic apps (like Stocks), new Animoji and a greater focus on augmented reality. This feature will help iPhone and the iPad users cut down on screen time and from time to time do a digital detox.

Google announced a similar feature called Dashboard earlier this year, which lets users drill down into their smartphone habits.

Next week, Apple will host its annual WWDC event where it will talk about the new features coming to iPhone this year.

- The WWDC 2018 will start at 10.30PM India time.

In case you want to watch or follow the WWDC 2-18 from India, here is how you will be able to do it. So keep in mind to tune in at the right tome for it.

Cook may address some of these issues in his opening remarks, but he often uses the start of big press events to address topics in the news. The event will be live-streamed here so open that link using Apple Safari browser on your Apple device.

- Apple says that the latest versions of Firefox and Chrome may also stream the WWDC 2018 live on Windows 10, but doesn't guarantee it.
