Roseanne Barr blames sleep aid Ambien for racist tweet

Roseanne Barr unleashed a fresh batch of controversial tweets overnight and into Wednesday morning, blaming a prescription sleeping pill for the racist comment that got her show canceled - and lashing out at her co-stars for "throwing her under the bus".

"ABC lost maybe $1 billion from this; this show was grinding out money hand over fist and they lost it all because somebody didn't say 'Get that phone out of her hand, '" he said of the situation. "I went too far and do not want it defended-it was egregious Indefensible. I made a mistake I wish I hadn't but...don't defend it please".

Sherwood's statement and Barr's latest tweet comes shortly after the actress claimed she was tweeting under the influence of Ambien.

Barr apologized Tuesday to Jarrett and "all Americans" for "making a bad joke about her politics and her looks".

"It's not a new thing, but it is disheartening that in 2018 we're still talking about people that are using that as the punch, right?" said Kelly Norman Ellis, a professor and department chair at Chicago State University.

She apologised directly to Jarrett on Twitter.

ABC chose to cancel "Rosanne" on Tuesday and then suspended its "For Your Consideration" Emmy campaign the following day.

Arnold went on to call Trump's response to the Roseanne tweet, in which the president blasted Disney CEO Bob Iger for not apologizing to him, "insane".

One tweet said: "I have only taken Ambien once but I don't remember one of the side-effects being racism".

"Guys I did something unforgiveable so do not defend me", she wrote in another post.

Barr lashed back early Wednesday, replying, "i created the platform for that inclusivity and you know it. ME".

She has since apologized for the remark, which put approximately 200 cast and crew members out of work.

She cited Ambien once again in a later tweet, saying, "Not giving excuses for what I did (tweeted) but I've done weird stuff while on Ambien - cracked eggs on the wall at 2 am etc".

The actor released a lengthy statement via Twitter in which he said the "words of one person do not exemplify the thinking of all involved".

"He's with Melania and I'm with my wife at the time, Shelby Roos, who's a political consultant", Arnold said.
