President Trump keeps pardoning his political friends

"He was treated very unfairly by our government!" the president tweeted Thursday morning.

D'Souza also personally contributed $10,000 to the campaign at a time when the legal limit for an individual contribution was $5,000.

Mr. Trump also commuted the sentence of Sholom Rubashkin, the former CEO of what was America's largest kosher slaughterhouse and meat-packing plant.

A judge rejected that defense, calling it "all hat, no cattle".

It's no surprise that Trump would take a shine to D'Souza, a vitriolic Obama hater who has cozied up to 45's White House before. He had been sharply critical of Barack Obama, whose administration prosecuted him.

Preet Bharara, the US attorney of the Southern District of NY who was sacked by President Trump, released a statement of the conviction. The President is handing these things out like political party favors.

D'Souza pleaded guilty in 2014 over donating $20,000 to NY politician Wendy Long.

As part of his guilty plea, D'Souza admitted that he "knew what he was doing was wrong and something the law forbids", the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of NY said in a statement. D'Souza served the first eight months of his sentence in a community confinement center.

Trump's decision to pardon D'Souza comes one day after he met with reality TV star Kim Kardashian about prison reform.
