Reusable Falcon 9 will be cheaper in 10 times

Originally scheduled to launch on Thursday, May 10th at 5:47 PM EST, the newest iteration of SpaceX's venerable Falcon 9 rocket has had its launch scrubbed due to a pad anomaly. His speech mentioned details including redesigning a pressure vessel which was associated in the explosion of rocket in 2016.

SpaceX made history with the debut of their Falcon 9 rocket, and Elon Musk has said that the new form of rocket reusability will take the company and space travel at large to new heights. "And I believe our conservative clients would concur with this".

"That is the design intent", he said. "We kind of adopted it from the Russians", he said. The Falcon 9 rockets that SpaceX has been flying for the past year are all reusable, but they require an extensive teardown between flights to perform maintenance. Currently, it is estimated that 60 percent of the cost of the Falcon 9 falls on the first tier, 20 percent to second, 10 percent for the fairing and everything else that is associated with the launch.

"I'm not predicting that we're about to enter a Dark Ages, but that there's some probability that we will, particularly if there's a third world war", Musk said in March.

Musk said the each of the nine Merlin engines used to power the Falcon 9's first stage now have an 8 percent increase in thrust at sea level to 190,000 pounds-force. The Merlin engines on that first version had 95,000 pounds of thrust for each first-stage engine and 92,500 pounds of thrust for the second-stage engine.

"In principle, we could refly Block 4 probably upwards of 10 times, but with a fair amount of work between each flight", Musk said.

The Block 5 is created to be capable of 10 or more flights with very limited refurbishment as SpaceX continues to strive for rapid reusability and extremely high reliability. Up to 2019 SpaceX plans with the same first step run Block 5 two times within one day. "The one thing which must change would be to reload propellant and fly".

After an updated version of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Florida's Cape Canaveral carrying Bangladesh's first communications satellite into orbit, its Founder and CEO Elon Musk on Sunday said his company is set for over 300 missions in five years. Once the Block 5 Falcon 9 comes back from the autonomous landing ship, SpaceX engineers will have to take it apart to examine components and verify that it could fly again without maintenance. SpaceX includes a contingency layout that would entail shifting from high-strength carbon fiber using an aluminum lining into the superalloy Inconel, but this is "unlikely to become mandatory", Musk said. Additionally, it is designed for simpler manufacturing.

Musk stated the Falcon 9's octaweb structure, utilized to support all 9 first stage engines and offer compartmentalization in case several stops working, is now much more powerful.

This newest booster landed on an ocean platform following liftoff. The octaweb is made with bolted instead of welded aluminum and has greater thermal protection to prevent melting, he said.

"Obviously, aesthetics are a minor factor in rocket design, but I still like the fact that we've returned for nostalgic reasons to having a black interstage", Musk said.
