The platform will also roll out a parent-approved content feature later this year.

"YouTube just can't get their heads around the fact that when you're expressly providing content for kids, there is an ethical need for an actual human being viewing it with their eyes and ears before it gets inside a child's brain".

Starting this week, parents will be able to choose from a selection of "trusted" channels if they don't want their kids to have access to the broad selection of content on Kids.

With over 800 million learning video views per day, YouTube Kids is now live in 37 countries.

YouTube hit a rough patch in late 2017, with advertisers pulling away from the service after news reports showed child predators using videos of young children as de facto chat rooms and after outcry over YouTube creators using children's characters like Elsa from Frozen or Nickelodeon's Peppa Pig and splicing in non-kid friendly language and themes.

This makes it easy for parents to select only the channel collections and topics they want their kids to access.

The YouTube Kids app is a separate, stand-alone app for smartphones and tablets, aimed at offering a safer video experience than the main YouTube app, which is a hotbed of viral videos aimed at adults. According to YouTube, these collections can include channels about arts and crafts, sports, music, and learning. It was once updated with Chromecast support and custom passcode, better parental controls, YouTube Red integration, more original content for the family audience, kids profiles, and a new algorithm. And, as always, we encourage parents to block and flag videos for review that they don't think should be in the YouTube Kids app. Of those 8 million videos deleted, 6.7 million were flagged by an algorithm and rest was picked by Youtube employees that they thought were not up to the community guidelines of the Youtube.

The new feature gives new choices to parents to further customize YouTube Kids app.

In a bid to give parents more control, YouTube Kids on Thursday announced three new features around the content available in the app.

"By the end of the year, we plan to refine our reporting systems and add additional data, including data on comments, the speed of removal, and policy removal reasons." .

This does not change the existing structure of the app if parents prefer that.
