Sensex ends 95 points higher; Nifty settles at 10565-level

At 9:18 am, the Sensex was trading at 34,427, up 96.10 points, while the broader Nifty50 was ruling at 10,558, up 32.20 points.

The Sensex is trading at 34,434.73 points up by 39.67 points or 0.12 per cent from its Tuesday's close at 34,395.06 points.

Gains across broader Asian stock markets also boosted sentiment, with MSCI's index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan up 0.5 percent.

Information technology stocks bounced back from recent losses with the NSE IT index up more than 1 per cent and TCS gaining almost 1 per cent.

At 3.30 p.m. the wider Nifty50 on the National Stock Exchange provisionally closed at 10,548.70 points, up 20.35 points or 0.19 per cent from the previous close.

The 30-share barometer rose 147.14 points (0.42 percent) to 34 478.82 with metal, realty, Teck, FMCG, IT and capital goods stocks rising up to 1.81 percent.

The BSE market breadth was bullish with 1,396 advances and 1,251 declines.

On NSE, the top gainers were Hindalco, Vedanta, and Tata Steel whereas the major losers were BPCL, Hindustan Petroleum and Indian Oil Corp. Shanghai Composite index ended 0.84 per cent up at 3,117.38.

The rupee weakened by another 14 paise, nearing a fresh seven-month low of 65.78, against the U.S. dollar in early trade at the interbank forex market today on fresh demand for the greenback from importers and banks.

Oil prices extended gains after settling close to 3 percent higher in the previous session on fall in U.S. crude inventories and after sources told Reuters that top exporter Saudi Arabia is seeking to push oil prices higher.

Meanwhile, on a net basis, Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 915.71 crore while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 869.70 crore on Wednesday, a provisional data showed.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average, however, ended 0.16 percent lower.
