Table tennis: Manika and co. stun favourites Singapore to seal historic gold

Earlier, 16-year-old Manu Bhaker and seasoned campaigner Heena Sidhu clinched gold and silver in the women's 10m Air Pistol final on Day four of the quadrennial event. "I had absolutely no idea", Jones, 28, said. But, out to prove that nothing is impossible for a willing heart, the Indians were simply remarkable as they out-muscled the three-time champion 3-1 for a memorable gold at the XXI Commonwealth Games.

Indian women's table tennis on Sunday created history at the Commonwealth Games following a 3-1 victory against Singapore in the gold medal tie.

Yadav lifted a total of 222 kg which included 100 kg in snatch and 122 kig in clean and jerk.

Vikas, who had taken silver in the 85 kg division at the 2014 CWG in Glasgow, Scotland, registered some of his best lifts in global competition.

On Saturday, Sathish Kumar Sivalingam won gold in Men's 77 kg weightlifting category.

The competition consists of two separate lifts: The Snatch and the Clean and Jerk. She lifted an impressive total of 192 kg to win the medal. But failing at 122 kg in her second attempt put her in a spot of bother. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won gold in the 48 kg category on Thursday.

"Had we lost, we would have been under pressure", Ashwini later said acknowledging her rivals' strong performance. When our flag flies high, it's a proud moment for all Indians.

Adding a wonderful 7th gold medal to the tally, Manika Batra shouldered the responsibility to lead her country into a confident and well-deserved win. "So, definitely this time around we have an all round team with all five events taken care of, that gives the entire team a lot of confidence and also makes us stronger", she explained.

They remained fourth in the medal table behind leaders Australia, England and Canada.
