Prep Softball | Trico remains undefeated with win over Goreville

Lacey Township High School defeated Toms River South 1-0 in a Non-League softball game on Friday.

The Panthers (4-8) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and a 4-2 lead in the third. Sierra Slightom, Tyra Garcia and Romero crossed home plate to score the winning runs. Smith advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single from Caitlin Hughes. Morgan Mooney went 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs.

A two-run sixth-inning for the Tigers helped them secure the game, with an two RBI double to left center to put Georgetown ahead, 7-5.

With a Shelby County Athletic League game on the line and two runners on base, Russian Federation senior Kylee Sherman didn't let a pitch down the middle go to waste. Mason Rynearson had three hits and three RBIs. Kristen Stiefel was 1 for 2 and scored a run. Ryan Pierce and Brent Summers each allowed one run in two innings of relief each. Absegami's Thu Deo went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI. It finished the night with six hits.

It was her first varsity home run, something she will always remember.

The Lady Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the first. Jeresha Meeks scored a run.

Russian Federation senior pitcher Grace Saunders, who was a first team all-SCAL selection previous year, had seven strikeouts and was 3 for 3 at the plate with 5 RBIs and two walks. Chapman and Thomas each had an RBI and a run. Sara Raubertas added a double.

The All Conference game is scheduled for Monday at Little Axe at 7 p.m.

"That was a great ballgame with two good pitchers going toe to toe", said Trico coach Andrew Franklin.

Mater Dei sophomore Destinee Noury was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Gavin Murphy, Justin Young and Wyatt Petrey each collected two hits in the first game of the day, with Petrey connecting on a two-run home run in the third. Graham recorded two runs, one hit and two RBIs in the opener and Hoppenjans recorded one run and one hit. Bella Gonzalez hit a solo homer one batter later. Freshman Kentucky native Lauren Johnson then plated a run on an RBI single with two outs.

Erin Rethlake was nothing short of spectacular in the circle for United Kingdom, going the distance, and only allowing one Louisville runner to reach third all night. Tori Smith hit a triple for the winners. McCullough stole a base and hit a double. Nate Hamilton was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Teah Bosio scored a run.
