Gender pay gap: when does your company stop paying women in 2018?

Gender pay gap: when does your company stop paying women in 2018?

Private and voluntary sector companies with more than 250 employees have until midnight tonight to submit details of their gender pay gap.

The trust's gender pay gap is smaller than at neighbouring Countess of Chester Hospital, where women earn an average of 28% less than men, and East Cheshire NHS Trust, where women earn 34.5% less than men on average. The club said it pays men and women the same salaries for the same jobs.

While the new data is limited to workers in the United Kingdom, it is likely that the situation is similar in other developed economies. In the upper pay quartile, the proportion of employees is 63.3% men and 36.7% women.

Sam Smethers, the society's chief executive, said gender pay gap reporting is a game changer in terms of workplace culture and practices.

Amazon UK Services, the division in question, is the only part of the business which reports a gender pay gap in favour of women. The hourly median gap was 24%, with men being paid more. When comparing mean hourly rates, women earn 54p for every £1 that men earn.

Niki Kandirikiria, director of programmes at Equality Now, hopes that companies with large pay gaps will take it on themselves to analyse what is causing the discrepancy and what they can do to adjust it.

"Many organizations consider the gender pay gap to be acceptable if men and women do different jobs or that men hold more senior positions than women. this is worrying", said Hazel Conley, a professor of human resource management at the University of the West of England.

The publisher, whose titles include The Morning Advertiser, The Grocer and brands covering the retail, hospitality and pharmacy industries, said it is already making "good progress" to narrow the pay gap. "Change does take time but I believe there is evidence that a more balanced picture with many more women in senior roles is emerging".

Want to find out the gender pay gap at your company? Its mean pay gap, meanwhile, is five per cent in men's favour.

Women earn less than men in all OECD countries. Facebook too is a major offender with big percentage difference between its hourly pay rate and its bonus pay.

All Apple employees are eligible to receive bonuses, however because the gender pay gap reporting requirements only considers vested stock in the year to 5 April 2017, new employees hired in this period were not represented in the final data.

When there are so few of us, the ability to start a conversation is a catch twenty-two.

On Tuesday morning, 8,874 of the more than 9,000 employers affected by the regulation had filed their figures to the United Kingdom gender pay gap service, which allows employees to check their company's record.
