Volunteers dye eggs for the Easter egg hunt at the Capitol

Fewer kids turned out this year and that meant more eggs in the baskets.

The event, sponsored by the city Recreation Department, was almost over before it began at 10 a.m.

Children age 10 and under participated in the hunt, although older kids were welcome to attend the event and watch.

About 15 minutes away, the 66th annual Easter Sunrise Service took place at Knott's Berry Farm with hundreds of people in attendance. She said the featured egg hunt included eggs hidden throughout the school's cafeteria, library and halls.

With Easter this Sunday, many children in northeastern and central Pennsylvania will be out hunting for eggs this weekend.

The boys' mum, Donna, said: "Thank you to every single person who has helped my boys in their appeal".

With a "3, 2, 1" count off by Presley, the egg hunters took off, grabbing what they could by themselves and with a little help from volunteers and staff members.

"We have record numbers, even with the weather", said Shannon Wellnitz, one of the event's committee members.

Shortly after the meal, the participants filed off to the sidewalk just outside the Carrington Pavilion, where they lined up for the egg hunt.

Silas had also enjoyed the craft portion of the event, quick to point out two colorful eggs, still wet with paint. There was face painting and games offered by the Wheelie Mobilee from My Museum and by the Monterey Public Library.

One of the biggest surprises of all was that the Easter Bunny knew the names of numerous children.

"Pretty good", said Rachel Deis, a city recreation department employee who was inside the costume.

"I'm glad to be here", she said.

At 10:40 a.m. the Easter Bunny was escorted from the park.

Gisele had a strategy for getting the most eggs during the hunt. Hewitt said that not many people knew what was going on when they got there.
