'Police activity' reported at YouTube offices near San Francisco

Police say a woman believed to be the shooter at YouTube's headquarters in San Bruno, California, is dead of a self-inflicted gunshot and four others have been wounded.

San Bruno police Chief Ed Barberini said there were a total of four victims in the shooting that started at 12:46 p.m. PDT.

The shooter earlier stormed the offices of YouTube prompting terrified workers to run for their lives. Several people inside the building were taken to local hospital; one 37-year-old male in critical said to be in critical condition.

Just before 4:30 p.m., they confirmed they were dealing with an active shooter.

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Officials confirm an active police investigation is underway at YouTube's headquarters on Cherry Avenue in San Bruno. Multiple witnesses tell KTVU the woman shot herself after shooting her boyfriend.

The incident is unfolding at the headquarters of YouTube.

Brent Andrew, with San Francisco General Hospital, described the shooting as a "multiple casualty" event.

Google communications said they are working with authorities to provide more confirmed information. "The fire alarm went off so we started to evacuate and then people (started) running saying there was a shooter".

"Customers said they heard what could have been gunshots when they were on their way here", Natalie Mangiante, an employee at Big Mouth Burgers located near the YouTube building, said by phone.

"My stomach sinks with yet another active shooter alert", the Democrat tweeted. Now barricaded inside a room with coworkers.

As he headed toward the exit, someone informed him there was a person with a gun. "First thought was natural disaster". "Someone else said that the person shot out the back doors and then shot themselves", he wrote.

He looked down and could see blood drops on the floor and stairs. "And people screaming", said the employee, who was in a building down the street.

There are reports that helicopters and tactical teams have arrived at the scene.
