Russian Federation test-fires 'invincible' ICBM 'Satan 2'

The RS-28 Sarmat is a super heavy, liquid-fueled ICBM capable of carrying multiple, independently targetable thermonuclear warheads and has been said capable of evading state-of-the-art defenses and destroying an area the size of Texas.

The video relayed the Satan 2 missile was launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Russia, CNN reported.

Russian Federation has conducted a second drop test of its newest Sarmat heavy intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the Defense Ministry said Friday.

The missile is meant to replace the Soviet-era Voevoda ICBM, which North Atlantic Treaty Organisation called SS-18 Satan, CNN reported. The Russian Defense Ministry posted video footage of the launch.

The U.S. joined the United Kingdom and several European Union nations in punishing Russian Federation after a former double agent and his daughter were attacked with a nerve agent on the streets of Salisbury in the United Kingdom.

The test came as the Kremlin denied a US report claiming President Donald Trump challenged his Russian counterpart during their telephone call earlier this month.

As with the other weapons he unveiled in his speech, Putin hailed the Sarmat as rendering ineffective even the most advanced missile defense systems that the United States might deploy for the foreseeable future.

The ICMB was sacked for the second time since tests began last December, say Moscow officials.

Putin's saber-rattling with the weapons, which he accompanied in his speech with warnings that the USA had failed to "contain Russian Federation", has prompted fears of a new nuclear arms race, as China also works to develop its own next-generation weapons and President Donald Trump has spoken of massively increasing the U.S.'s nuclear arsenal.

President Putin unveiled a suite of other weapons during his speech, including a supersonic weapon that can not be tracked by anti-missile systems. Russian Federation abandoned talks over the new missile defense system in November that year after they accused the USA of refusing to guarantee that the defense system will not be used against Russian Federation.
