Nigeria Gov't seeks Boko Haram ceasefire

Sharibu was among the 110 students of the Government Girls' Science and Technical School Dapchi, Yobe State who were abducted over a month ago and released last week.

Police Inspector General Muhammed Abubakar said Saturday that he cancelled a trip to Dapchi to avoid interfering with the release.

Religious leaders in Nigeria demand that Boko Haram release a schoolgirl who they've kept, despite releasing 104 others, for refusing to renounce Christ and become Muslim.

Ibrahim Idris, has assured that the only Dapchi schoolgirl still in the captivity of Boko Haram, Leah Sharibu, is on her way to Dapchi, following her release. "We urge the leadership and members of the group to re-examine its ideological base", Muslim Rights Concern said, according to Crux.

The Force also said the IG was misunderstood and misquoted.

However, in a statement in Abuja on Sunday, Jimoh Moshood, the force spokesman, denied having any information about Sharibu's release, saying the IG was misunderstood.

He said the Boko Haram group which had abducted the girls was ideologically different from the Abubakar Shekau led faction, which did not discriminate on who it kidnapped.

The Islamic extremist group Boko Haram stormed Dapchi on February 19, abducting 111 schoolgirls.

Dapchi girls being airlifted to Maiduguri.

The Dapchi kidnapping revived painful memories in Nigeria of the April 2014 abduction of over 200 schoolgirls from Chibok, a town also in the northeast, which caused global outrage.

"It is very understandable that is such circumstance one does not create too much security presence in the area in a manner that it could sabotage the efforts being made there".

While some of the Chibok girls have been freed in exchange for ransom and the release of top Boko Haram commanders, a total of 112 remain in captivity.

The 105 rescued Dapchi schoolgirls have reunited with their families amidst celebrations after their meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari. The parents, relations and well-wishers hit the town as the girls roll out of the luxury buses that brought them back into the town from the airport.

Boko Haram has repeatedly targetted schools giving a so-called Western education in the region as part of an insurgency that has killed at least 20,000 people since 2009.
