Trump welcomes Saudi Prince, says Saudi Arabia

Mohammed Bin Salman, also popularly called MBS, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia in his current visit to the United States has been on a shopping spree for arms and ammunition.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday implored Saudi Arabia's powerful crown prince to share his nation's wealth by continuing to purchase American-made weapons.

A senior Trump administration official said the two leaders talked about the humanitarian situation in Yemen and that civilian casualties "did not come up in a major way", given that Washington had been working with the Saudis to minimize them.

Trump displayed the charts relating to the deals to show the depth of Saudi purchases of USA military hardware, which includes apart from other things, purchase of ships, missile defense, planes and fighting vehicles.

A Saudi-led coalition is fighting to counter the influence of mainly Shi'ite Iran, an ally of the Huthi rebels who deny any help from Tehran and say they are fighting a revolution against corrupt politicians and Gulf powers who are controlled by the West. Neither Mr. Trump nor his guest mentioned Yemen or the humanitarian crisis there to reporters, instead focusing on the huge increase in military hardware that Saudi Arabia is purchasing from the US, and the boon to the USA economy.

The two leaders had already agreed on a plan for about USD200 billion worth of investments from the Saudi side into U.S., which includes large puchases of military equipment from US.

"We also talked about the enrichment that they're pursuing and some of the concerns that existed there", Corker said, touching on a disagreement over whether Saudi Arabia should insist on retaining its option to enrich domestic uranium resources under a nuclear cooperation agreement.

The visit of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, also known as MBS, came nearly one year after the USA president visited Riyadh.

For his part, Prince Mohammed will be soliciting $35 billion in American investment to accelerate his plan to overhaul Saudi Arabia's infrastructure - part of his ambitious Vision 2030 plan, which seeks to modernize the kingdom and wean its reliance on oil. He said a 10-year window for implementing the deal was already underway.

"Iran has not been treating that part of the world or the world itself appropriately", Mr. Trump told reporters. President Barack Obama also angered the Saudis by negotiating a nuclear agreement with their regional rival, Iran.

Trump said that the Saudis were "also footing a big part of the bill for defense" in "the whole Middle East" but made clear that he expects Riyadh to do more.Referring to the almost completed battlefield defeat of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, Trump said that USA involvement was "coming to an end in that part of the world". Lotta bad things are happening in Iran. "The deal is coming up in one month and we'll see what happens".

Republican Senator Bob Corker, chairman of the chamber's Foreign Relations Committee, said senators questioned the crown prince closely about Yemen during a meeting with him on Tuesday.

Mohammed was expected to meet with Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt, who are in charge of the administration's effort to forge an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, as well as CIA Director and secretary of state-designate Mike Pompeo, and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.
