ACLU of Northern California Statement on Increased ICE Activity

ICE arrested more than 150 people "in violation of federal USA immigration laws" in the San Francisco Bay Area following Schaaf's warning, the agency said Tuesday.

"The Oakland mayor's decision to publicize her suspicions about ICE operations further increased [risks] for my officers and alerted criminal aliens - making clear that this reckless decision was based on her political agenda with the very federal laws that ICE is sworn to uphold", acting ICE director Thomas Homan said in a statement. Those who did had convictions including "assault/battery, crimes against children, weapons charges and DUI", ICE said.

Mayor Schaaf said she had multiple sources confirming that Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are planning to conduct raids this week.

KTVU asked Schaaf's office who she was referencing and we were told Schaaf talked with community leaders of immigrant groups by phone before tipped off the public. Local rapid response hotlines have confirmed that ICE has arrested at least 37 people over the past few days in cities including Monterey, Oakland, Fresno, Napa, San Francisco, Sacramento, Santa Clara, and Salinas.

Interim Mayor Mark Farrell attended the protest and affirmed San Francisco's status as a sanctuary city, ABC7 reported.

I guess it's not enough for Democrats to tell their local police officers they can't assist with the enforcement of federal law. Since Sunday, ICE deportation officers have arrested more than 150 individuals who are in violation of federal US immigration laws, working on leads developed by the local field office in conjunction with the National Criminal Analysis and Targeting center (NCATC).

Schwab says that ICE agents would prefer not to visit people at residences or businesses.

"However, ICE no longer exempts classes or categories of removable aliens from potential enforcement", he said.

As Trump's Justice Department looks into the leftist mayor's act of defiance against federal agents, Homan stands in disbelief that a mayor would obstruct justice in such a way - insisting that he has never witnessed this kind of blatant defiance over his more than three decades of protecting and serving Americans.

Last week President Donald Trump threatened to withdraw immigration enforcement agencies from California, accusing the state of shielding "horrible criminals".

Check out Schaaf's defense of her actions in the video below. "There's over 800 significant public safety threat criminals. that we are unable to locate because of that warning, so that community's a lot less safe than it would've been". "Sanctuary cities and states are not immune from federal law".

The Bay Area has been mobilized in the past few months with periodic warnings of ICE raids surfacing on social media, some of which were found to be false.

The activist mayor also blasted the immigration crackdown as "racist" during a news conference in her office Wednesday. Giordano, for his part, said there was no indication Gonzalez had anything to do with the wildfires, which killed more than 40 people and have since been linked to damaged electrical equipment.

He has warned that ICE officers will inevitably come across other undocumented immigrants in the course of targeted actions and make what are known as collateral arrests. "We need to be vigilant and not just turn a blind eye to all the injustices going on right now".
