HTC's Smartphone Head Chialin Chang Quits

The reason for the resignation of Chialin Chang is not clear but as per sources, he has resigned because of his personal carrier plan.

According to HTC, Chang joined the Taiwanese smartphone brand in April 2012 as chief financial officer after leaving the U.S-based investment bank Goldman Sachs. The bottom line is, Chang is out and HTC, at least for now, is not replacing him. His replacement has not yet been announced and Chairwoman and CEO Cher Wang will likely take over his duties until the company can find someone to fill his position. HTC for $1.1 billion gave its team to Google. However, after Google acquired HTC's smartphone design and engineering teams, his position was somewhat redundant.

As noted by HTC Investors, the company's President of Smartphones and Connected devices, Chang Chialin, has resigned. An HTC handset said to be the HTC U12 (aka Imagine) was recently photographed at a 5G event run by a local carrier in Taiwan.

HTC may not launch its next flagship at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2018 later this month, but it should formally unveil it shortly afterward. HTC's smartphone division has been losing money for ten consecutive quarters, with one of its most recent losses being $103 million in Q3 of a year ago. Over the past couple of years, he's been at the helm of HTC's switch in design language with the U Ultra and the U 11 variants. Some speculate that the HTC U12 might be the company's last flagship, but nothing is confirmed at this point.
