Gerrit Cole Traded to Astros from Pirates Amid Yankees Rumors

The Houston Astros' have reached an agreement with the Pittsburgh Pirates on a trade for right-hander Gerrit Cole, MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported Wednesday, citing sources.

This trade is the latest in a series of aggressive, focused moves by the Astros.

"We have talked to several teams about possible trades", Luhnow told the Houston Chronicle.

The Yankees miss out on righthander Gerrit Cole.

Cole's best season was 2015, when he went 19-8 with a 2.60 ERA and 202 strikeouts.

If the trade does goes through, the trade would bolster an already-stacked rotation in Houston that includes two-time Cy Young award-winner Justin Verlander and 2015 victor Dallas Keuchel.

Cole was the Yankees' first-round pick (28th overall) in the 2008 draft, but opted to play at UCLA. It was by far the worst performance of his career.

The Yankees now must look elsewhere to add another arm to their rotation.

Shortly after, FOX Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal, who previously said a deal was "close", appeared to walk back his claim.

They already have five capable starters in Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, Sonny Gray, CC Sabathia and Jordan Montgomery.
