Obama Will Be Letterman's First Guest On New Netflix Series

President Barack Obama, Howard Stern, George Clooney, Tina Fey, and Malala Yousafzai are also slated to appear on the 60-minute monthly series.

Netflix announced Friday that Letterman's return to television will begin streaming on January 12 with the 60-minute episode featuring Obama's first talk-show appearance since leaving office.

Letterman, 70, who officially retired in 2015 after a 22-year run as the host of Late Show with David Letterman ― a very American melange of celebrity interviews, monologues and sketches ― had said in August that he would be back in 2018 on Netflix.

Letterman's interview with Obama will mark the former president's first television talk show appearance since he left office in January past year.

More news: Khloe Kardashian insists she is in no rush to marry

Obama has laid low since leaving the White House previous year with the exception of a few public appearances and a radio interview with Britain's Prince Harry recorded in September and broadcast last month.

"I got exhausted of people saying 'What do you want to do?'" Letterman told Variety in August.

"I had a show for a long time", Letterman said in his new show's trailer. "These are people that I admire". One will be released per month. It will be his first talk show appearance since leaving the White House in January of a year ago. "Then I didn't have a show for a long time - and I can't tell you how great it is to be out of the damn house".

In an interview with Prince Harry on BBC Radio 4's Today Programme that aired on December 27, former president Barack Obama talked about the dangers of social media and his last day as president.
