Apple buys app development service Buddybuild

Apple has acquired a Canadian based IOS app tools startup Buddybuild for an undisclosed amount as the tech giant aims to further consolidate its app revenue.

"We're excited to share that the Buddybuild team has joined the Xcode engineering group at Apple to build awesome developer tools for the entire iOS community", the company announced, likewise confirming that Buddybuild will soon become an exclusive iOS developer tool. "We've always been proud to be a Canadian company, so we're also pleased that we will be staying right here in Vancouver - a hotbed of developer and engineering talent", the team wrote on its announcement blog post.

So, it's clear that the service will remain available for current customers, and company will not accept any new customer.

Some Android developers vented their frustration on Twitter, especially in light of the relative short notice.

As stated on its official website, Buddybuild essentially helps in faster and efficient development of IOS apps.

Now, the acquisition of BuddyBuild could help Apple up the number of downloads, which is still behind Google's Android. Now that same scenario is playing out all over again.

The Xcode engineering group absorbing Buddybuild will only make the iOS environment more developer-friendly and presumably make Apple steps ahead of Google. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that whichever service they switch to will not ultimately be bought up as well. Apple's acquisition of the startup could lead to vastly improved workflows for developers making apps for iOS devices. On paper, at least, Buddybuild would add to what TestFlight now offers with a deeper range of developer options and support for app developers covering Apple's range of mobile operating systems. Services, which include revenues from Internet Services, App store, Apple Music, AppleCare, Apple Pay, licensing and other services, surged 34% year over year to almost $8.5 billion in the last quarter.

Apple set a new record for App Store sales on New Year's Day, thanks to a 25 percent increase from the same day a year earlier.

Buddybuild was founded back in 2015 by two former Amazon employees named Dennis Pilarinos and Christopher Stott. Its list of existing customers is impressive as it includes Mozilla, Hootsuite, Reddit and The New York Times.

Buddybuild, as part of the deal, will discontinue its service for Alphabet's GOOGL Android app development starting Mar 1, 2018.
