Unlocked iPhone X Is Now On Sale

As 9to5Mac reported yesterday, Apple is now offering the option to buy the tenth-anniversary handset without a carrier.

"SIM-free" means your iPhone doesn't ship with a carrier SIM card. Those of you in Australia can get the same delivery date, again SIM-free, but the fact that the deal has now arrived in the U.S. as well is significant. People can also order the unlocked iPhone X smartphones and pick them up from an Apple Store, which also sell an unlocked version of the device. The new option, available from Apple's online store in the United States, allows customers to buy an iPhone X without having to commit to or otherwise have an account with one of the nation's top carriers (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint or T-Mobile).

The downside to purchasing one is that you'll be expected to shell out a cool $999 or $1,149 (plus tax) for it. Carriers offer the option to pay the price of the smartphone in monthly installments, but those options aren't available when you buy a SIM-free iPhone X. However, Apple does offer its 24-month special financing program for specific credit card customers.

"Getting an iPhone with the Qualcomm modem is still the way to go if you want the best possible LTE performance", according to Segan.

If you completed the carrier activation steps for AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon when you purchased your new iPhone online, it will arrive ready to use.
