North Korea Blasts US Terrorism Blacklisting

According to a report in The Financial Chronicle, Air China has suspended flights to North Korea, further limiting the secretive state's links with the outside world, in what the government said was a business decision with no political motives. The sanctions specifically named four companies in Dandong that have been trading with North Korea despite United Nations sanctions that China's President Xi Jinping has said he fully supports.

North Korea has criticized the USA for relisting the country as a state sponsor of terrorism.

The researchers gathered their information from announcements made on North Korean state media and were able to come up with 15 targets on North Korea's list, including the Pentagon, Tokyo and U.S. strategic sites in the Pacific Ocean.

The Republican president, who has traded personal insults with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un but has not ruled out talks, said the Treasury Department will announce additional sanctions against North Korea on Tuesday.

As Trump said, the decision reaffirms the USA government's commitment to imposing maximum pressure on the Pyongyang government.

A spokesperson for North Korea's foreign ministry, said, US government's decision shows, how it is "just a tool for American style authoritarianism that can be attached or removed at any time in accordance with its interests", Sky News reported.

The United Nations estimates that more than 50,000 North Korean workers are employed in foreign countries, mostly in China and Russian Federation, but also in countries like Malaysia, Qatar, Ethiopia and Poland.

This continues a trend in which US-North Korea relations appear to send a lot of mixed messages.

Air China's decision came shortly after a visit by a senior Chinese envoy to the North Korean capital of Pyongyang.

Few expect that the Kim regime will easily give in to outside pressure.

The US designation only made North Korea more committed to retaining its nuclear arsenal, the official said.

Trump said strong US sanctions "supports our maximum pressure campaign to isolate the murderous regime" - a claim that no one would deny. Hill said North Korea had to be returned to the list in view of such acts of terror as the assassination of Kim Jong-Un's half-brother, Kim Jong-Nam, in Kuala Lumpur International Airport and the torture and death of university student Otto Warmbier.

Christopher Hill is the former US diplomat who was instrumental in persuading first the secretary of state at the time, Condoleezza Rice, and then President Bush, to pull North Korea's name from the "terror list".
