Half Nelson and Mississippi Grind helmers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are on board to direct Marvel's next big character introduction after Black Panther, with Marvel chief Kevin Feige producing.

Brie has signed on to play Marvel feminist icon Carol Danvers in the feature, who had an Easter Egg cameo in Doctor Strange.

Carol Danvers was an Air Force pilot who was infused with alien Kree DNA after touching some of the Kree's enhanced technology.

In the world of Marvel Comics, Danvers gains her powers after an incident that involves Kree technology exploding and infusing her with the powers of Mar-Vell. Should a deal place, he'll play the film's male lead alongside Larson and, presumably, Star Wars alum Ben Mendelsohn. She then became the superhero known as Ms. Marvel, but recently assumed the full identity of Captain Marvel in the comics. He'll also be seen in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, playing Young Dumbledore opposite Johnny Depp (ugh) as Young Grindelwald.

Captain Marvel, the studio's first female-fronted standalone, is set to hit theaters March 8, 2019. Nothing is finalized yet, but it looks as though Law has jumped ahead of the other well-known candidates that have been approached about the role (see the tweet below for more). He is also still attached to appear in a third Sherlock Holmes movie with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr.

Details on Captain Marvel are still mostly under wraps, but we know it'll be an origin story set in the early 1990s.
