Aston Martin's 2018 Vantage Features A Polarising New Design Language

Power is sent to the rear wheels through an Xtrac 6-speed sequential transmission and a carbon-fiber driveshaft.

Under the bonnet is where the vehicle will shine with Aston Martin's latest 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 positioned as low and as far back as possible in the chassis to achieve the magic 50:50 weight balance for handling junkies.

Hot on the heels of the new 2019 Aston Martin Vantage's reveal comes the GTE racing variant, which will compete in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) series beginning in 2018. The bodywork - including the massive rear wing, diffuser and front splitter - is mostly made from carbonfibre, helping the racier Vantage hit the 1245kg FIA-regulated weight figure. The interior has also been revamped with new style and, most importantly, Aston Martin has increased the car's headroom. But it's not all about performance - the cabin lifts plenty of aspects from Mercedes-AMG road cars, including the infotainment system.

The new V8 Vantage has some Vulcan styling in the front with a wide-open grille that looks suspiciously like the Aston Martin logo upside down.

Aston Martin has been teasing the new Vantage for weeks now, but we're finally here with the official unveiling of the new English sportscar. But this isn't just a new body on the old race car's chassis.

However, with the Vantage, even more than the recently launched DB11, everything beneath the skin is essentially a cherry-picked selection of everything that's cutting-edge in terms of sportscar capability, starting with the engine. Until recently, Aston Martin had been relying on stylish designs but aging engineering since its separation from Ford in 2007.

For the first time on an Aston, this new Vantage has an electronic rear differential, which is linked to the car's electronic stability control system, so it can monitor the car's behaviour and supposedly react accordingly, channeling power to the relevant wheel. Aston Martin says the Vantage will go from 0-60 miles per hour in a cool 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 195 miles per hour. Each makes the car's performance, and its engine sound, more aggressive. Factor in the adaptive dampers and electronic powersterring, as well as the Sport, Sport Plus and Track modes and you'll end up with a machine prepared to please both its driver and the Bond girl riding shotgun (perhaps things could be the other way around). The interior has leather and Alcantara upholstery with full leather as an option. There's an 8-inch LCD screen with navigation and dual-zone automatic climate control to maintain comfort throughout the ride.

Deliveries of the all-new Vantage will start during the second quarter of 2018, with the base price in the USA coming in at $149,995.
