Haryana girl Manushi Chillar is the new Miss World

Manushi, who was also the victor of Miss India 2017, made it through a total of 108 contestants to bag the coveted title. She was presented the crown by Stephanie Del Valle, the last year's Miss World victor from Puerto Rico at the event in Sanya City Arena in China. She has studied at St Thomas School in New Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat.

The 20-year-old from Haryana, born to doctor parents, competed with more than 100 contestants from across the world to win the crown. Miss Puerto Rico, Stephanie Del Valle, who won the crown past year, crowned Ms chillar with 2017 crown. incidentally, Stephanie had crowned Manushi Miss India 2017 in June at Femina Miss India World pageant.

The family members and friends danced and distributed candies on Saturday night after news of Manushi winning the Miss World title broke.

The announcement about Chhillar winning the Miss World crown was also made on the pageant's official Twitter handle as well as on its Facebook page. Mexico's Andrea Meza was the second runner-up while England's Stephanie was awarded first runner-up. Then she replied, "Mothers deserve the highest respect". She is the biggest inspiration in my life. "So, I think it is the job of a mother that deserves the highest salary", Chhillar said to a wide-applause. Manushi is the 6th Indian to have won the coveted crown.

Manushi Chhillar is the sixth Indian victor of the long-running contest, following in the footsteps of Bollywood actresses Priyanka Chopra and Aishwarya Rai.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, who is an MLA from Haryana, also congratulated her.
