National Prescription Drug Take Back Day happening this Saturday

According to a news release from CCPD, local authorities are working with the Drug Enforcement Administration to "prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding homes of potentially unsafe expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs".

Remember no liquids, needles, or razors will be accepted. There is no charge, and dropoff is anonymous.

"Proper drug disposal is one way to substantially reduce the abuse of prescription narcotic painkillers", Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel said in a statement.

In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing unused medicines - flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash - pose potential safety and health hazards. Beaverton Police Officers will be on hand to accept unwanted medications at the driver's- side door.

The nonmedical use of prescription drugs ranks second only to marijuana as the most common form of drug abuse in America.

The Pullman Police Department provides a prescription drug drop box available 24 hours a day to help with disposal.

The Muskegon Heights Police Department noted that between 8 a.m. and noon, it will take back both prescription drugs and recreational drugs with no questions asked. There are multiple places in Clermont County to turn in old, expired, or unused prescription drugs.

In last April's Drug Take-Back, people around the country turned in 450 tons of prescription drugs.

The Police Department is located at 407 Center St. Nationwide, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates opioid overdoses kill 91 Americans every day.

The Juenau Police Department states that people can dispose of prescription (controlled and non-controlled) and over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vials and pet medications.
