Many users suffering from the temporary disconnection are reacting to the outage on Twitter with witty responses. Service began returning to users about 12:30 p.m.

Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, is reportedly struggling too.

As a result, numerous affected users took things to Twitter to express their outrage in comical ways and spread the word with the hashtag #facebookdown. About 39 percent of users reported a total blackout, 36 percent said they couldn't log in, and 23 percent of app users also reported issues. Outage reports from DownDetector were showing that the issues were occurring worldwide but especially in the United States and Europe.

Services tied to Facebook, like SocialFlow, have reported issues with the platform's publishing API, too. "Thanks for your patience".

"We're aware that some people are now having trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram", said Facebook, in a statement emailed to Fox News. According to The Verge, around 2,500 complaints have been filed after Instagram also suffered a global outage.

"Facebook Outage: America Resorts to Old-Fashioned Stalking", one wag commented. "We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible".
