Two Lashkar terrorists killed by security forces in J&K's Bandipora

As the joint team of forces intensified the searches on wee hours, the hiding militants opened fired, triggering a fierce gunfight between the two sides. At least 2 to 3 terrorists are believed to be holed up at the encounter site. The Garud personnel were operating with the army for operational experience and training.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said that one of the two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists killed in the Bandipora encounter was involved in several other terror attacks in the area.

The earlier reports said the gun battle erupted when the security personnel surrounded the Paribal village early on Wednesday following specific inputs about the militants' presence inside a house.

This is for the first time Air Force Garud persons were killed in an operation against militancy since the eruption of militancy in early 90s. Security forces from 13 Rashtriya Rifles 9 Para and SOG of J&K Police cordoned off Hajin area of Bandipora district in North Kashmir.

Two militants were also killed in the operation in Hajin area of Bandipora, the official said. Internet services have also been snapped until further orders by the authorities. "In the intense operation two IAF Garuds {Sergeant Khairnar Milind Kishor and Corporal Nilesh Kumar Nayan} sustained serious multiple bullet injuries and were evacuated to Base Hospital, Srinagar where they succumbed to the injuries and were martyred", the statement added.

The Jaish commander was killed in the encounter, they had said.
